Research Policy Changes
Whether you are looking to conduct research yourself, have us assist you, or are not even sure where to start, we can help! We have quite a collection of books, cemetery records, census records, family files, subject files, newspapers (partially digitized) and photos. We will gladly assist you no matter the topic of inquiry.
Due to the significant increase in research requests, and the amount of time needed to fully complete each request, the Schuyler County Historical Society is implementing a new policy regarding research requests. Please read all the changes below and if you have any questions please feel free to contact us.
Conduct Your Own Research
Our Research Library is open to the public and available upon request to conduct research. Our Society members and students may research for free. For all others the cost is $5 per hour. Please email the Museum Assistant to schedule a time.
Submit a Research Request for Us to Research
If you are unable to visit us in person, we are happy to complete research for you. To help support the preservation and maintenance of the research facilities, there is a charge of $15 for the first hour, and $20 for each additional hour. Copies are an additional $0.25 each. Research requests will be completed in the order in which they are received.
Professional Historians
Any professional historian is welcome conduct research free of charge in the library. We do ask that you make an appointment with the Museum Assistant prior to your arrival. This way, we do not end up with too many people all at once, and everyone will have sufficient space to work.
If you are a historian and unable to physically come to the Museum to conduct research we will most certainly assist you. We waive the fee for the first two hours of research time each year. Any additional hours are billed at the regular rate of $20 per hour. Please note, research requests are completed in the order in which they are received.
