The Schuyler County Historical Society offers different types of programming throughout the year. We offer Talkin’ History!, Walkin’ History!, Learnin’ History!, Teachin’ History!, and occasionally Readin’ History.

Talkin’ History! events are talks given on specific historical topics that pertain to Schuyler County. Our County Historian, various town and village historians, executive director offer these talks free of charge and on a variety of subjects. When possible, the talks center around a central theme for the year that often influence the exhibitions on display at the Brick Tavern Museum. Recent themes include: “Watkins Glen: 75 Years of Road Racing,” “200 Year: Seneca Lake & the Erie Canal Waterways,” and this years theme, “Schuyler County Celebrates America 250!”

Walkin’ History! events are offered June through October. We offer walking tours of the villages of Watkins Glen, Montour Falls, Burdett, and Odessa. We also offer several walks through that timeframe focused on specific subjects. These events are free and open to everyone and anyone! Be sure to dress for the weather and wear comfortable shoes! Our walking tours happen rain or shine. We will cancel due to thunder and lightning

Learnin’ History! events center on historical crafts and historical research methodologies. Each year we try to bring a couple of historical craft-making classes into the mix and teach a class or two on researching your genealogy and home.

Teachin’ History! programming refers to our K-13 programming with the local schools. Are you homeschooled? Be sure to reach out as we can offer you the same lessons! Contact the Executive Director for more information.

Readin’ History! is only offered occasionally and to great success. This program provides the opportunity to read several books on a particular historical topic and then come together to discuss the text and our points of view over several sessions.
